Author Guidelines

1. Manuscript Format

Linguistics only accepts English manuscripts. The manuscripts should reflect the latest progress, trends, and achievements in the relevant field. It is required that the title and the content are consistent, the arguments are clear, the evidence is reliable, the data is accurate, and the language is concise and standardized. The specific requirements are as follows:

(1) The submitted content must be the author's unpublished research results and should not involve any issues of confidentiality. The expression should strive to be substantial and concise. When citing data or materials, the references should be indicated, and the text, numbers, measurement units, and symbols must be written clearly in accordance with relevant standards. Manuscripts that have been publicly published or accepted by formal domestic and foreign publications will not be accepted by this journal.

(2) Submitted manuscripts should include the title, author information (name, contact information, institutional information, and author's brief introduction), abstract, keywords, main text, and references, etc. The length of the manuscript is preferably between 20,000 and 30,000 characters.

(3) Please pay attention to the writing of the abstract and the introduction. The abstract should be written in accordance with the requirements of this journal, and it is recommended to be 250 to 300 words in length (approximately 1,500 to 2,000 characters). To facilitate indexing, at least three keywords should be provided below the abstract. The introduction and conclusion should highlight the focus and novelty of the research in this paper. The introduction part needs to list the latest research trends in this field.

(4) Please use the legal measurement units, standardized nouns, and terms. The hierarchical titles should all be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and different levels of numbers should be separated by a dot. For example, the first-level title uses "1", the second-level title uses "1.1", the third-level title uses "1.1.1", etc., and the numbers should be written flush with the left margin. The table names should be scientific and concise. Try to use the three-line table format, and there should be no vertical lines in the table, such as "(Table 1 ……)". The table name should be placed above the table. All illustrations need to be named, such as "(Figure 1 ……)", and the figure name should be labeled below the figure to form a unified whole with the illustration. The numbering of the tables and figures should uniformly use Arabic numerals and be arranged in sequence, such as Table 1, Table 2, Table 3, Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3. The coordinate lines or frame lines of the illustrations should be thinner than the curves in the figure, and the units of the coordinate variables and the numbers in the figures and tables must be indicated.

(5) The number of references cited should be no less than 10. To reflect the latest research achievements in this field, it is recommended to appropriately cite articles published in relevant journals within the past five years. The references should be attached at the end of the paper in the order of their citation in the text, following the APA format. That is, in-text citations should follow the author-date method, and the author's surname and the publication year should appear in the text, for example, "(Jones, 1998)"; the complete reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order of the author's surname at the end of the paper. Unpublished data and personal communications should not be included in the reference list but should be cited in the main text (such as "Smith A, 2000, Unpublished data"). All citations mentioned in the main text, tables, or figures must be included in the reference list.

(6) When submitting a manuscript, authors are required to log in to the submission website: https://www.sciscanpub.com/journals/lin, register an account through the online submission system, set a username and password, and fill in the complete personal information. The submitted file must be in WORD format and typeset according to the paper template and writing requirements of this journal. For manuscripts that are tentatively accepted, the authors need to make revisions and improvements one by one according to the reviewers' comments and then upload the revised manuscript.

(7) For the accepted papers, the editorial department will give priority to publishing them on the platform after editing. The authors of the papers should promptly check the proofread copies and submit the revised versions. The editorial department will arrange for publication according to the return time of the revised versions and the content of the manuscripts.

2. Research and Publication Ethical Morality

When the content of the journal manuscript involves research on human subjects, animals, etc., the author must declare that these studies were carried out with the approval of the ethics committee. The ethical statement should be clearly indicated in the article, including the project identification code, the approval date, and the name of the ethics committee or institutional review board. The editorial department reserves the right to reject any submission that does not meet the above requirements.

Example of an ethical statement: "All subjects provided informed consent to participate in the study before their inclusion. This study strictly adheres to the Declaration of Helsinki and has been approved by the XXX Ethics Committee (project identification code)."

For manuscripts that contain any case details, personal information, and/or patient images, the author must obtain an informed consent form signed by the patient (or their relative/guardian) before submitting the manuscript. The patient's detailed information must be anonymized as much as possible. For example, avoid mentioning specific ages, ethnicities, or occupations that are irrelevant to the research conclusions; without the patient's consent, sensitive information such as their facial features should not be disclosed.

This journal firmly opposes any form of academic misconduct, including but not limited to plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, appropriation, deception, or using multiple different signatures, etc. Once any of the above behaviors are discovered, this journal will adopt a zero-tolerance attitude. This journal strictly prohibits resubmission or multiple submissions of the same manuscript. After an article is submitted to this journal, the editorial department will promptly notify the author whether the manuscript is accepted. Before receiving a clear reply from the editorial department, please do not submit the same manuscript to other journals. Any disputes arising from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, appropriation, deception, or other copyright issues shall be the sole responsibility of the author.

3. Review Process

3.1 Preliminary Review

After receiving all submitted manuscripts, the editorial department of this journal will arrange for a professional responsible editor to conduct a preliminary inspection to confirm whether the manuscript is properly prepared as required and verify whether it complies with the journal's ethical requirements, including whether it meets the ethical policy requirements for human and animal experiments. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's ethical requirements or fail to meet the journal's standards will not be eligible for the peer review stage, and manuscripts with serious violations will be directly rejected. Inadequately prepared manuscripts will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission. For manuscripts that pass the preliminary review, the responsible editor will contact the members of the editorial board to evaluate whether the content is in line with the journal's research field and whether it has scientific value. Whether a manuscript can pass the preliminary review stage ultimately depends on the decision of the chief editor.

3.2 Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review will be assigned to at least two peer experts for review. This journal adopts a single-blind review system, that is, the reviewers are aware of the author's information, while the authors have no access to the identities of the reviewers. The review comments can be made public with the consent of the reviewers.

In the regular review process, the responsible editor will invite experts in the relevant field to participate in the review. These experts include members of the editorial board, guest editorial board members, and reviewers recommended by the authors. The reviewers should not have co-authored a paper with the manuscript author within the past five years and should not be from the same institution or have a cooperative relationship with the named author during the review period.

The peer review cycle is 15 days.

3.3 Review Decision and Revision

All papers published in this journal are required to go through peer review, and there should be no fewer than two review comments. Whether a paper can be accepted is finally decided by the editorial board after the responsible editor summarizes the review comments and submits them. The review comments are divided into the following three types:

l Acceptance

l Revision

l Rejection

If the author disagrees with the review result, they can file an appeal with the editorial department via email. The appeal should provide detailed reasons and give a point-by-point response to the comments of the reviewers and/or editors. The responsible editor of the journal will forward the manuscript and relevant information (including the identities of the reviewers) to the chief editor, associate editor, or a member of the editorial board, and the relevant editorial board member will make a decision (which may recommend acceptance, further peer review, or maintaining the original decision). The decision at this stage is final, and the editorial department will not accept further appeals.

3.4 Publication

Once a manuscript is accepted, it will go through professional language polishing, typesetting, and proofreading. After the author's confirmation, it will be officially published on the journal's official website.

4. Author Attribution and Change Requirements

The authors listed on the manuscript should have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the manuscript, such as the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; the writing or revision of the core content of the paper. In addition, the submission of all versions of the paper (including revised versions involving author contributions) must be carried out with the unanimous consent of all listed authors. Once an author is listed, they shall bear full responsibility for the entire content of the paper, ensuring that issues related to the accuracy and integrity of the paper have been reasonably investigated, analyzed, and correctly recorded in the paper. It should be noted that raising funds, collecting data, or overall management of the research team do not constitute valid reasons for author attribution. Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for author attribution should have their contributions stated in the acknowledgment section.

For more specific requirements regarding author attribution, you can refer to the relevant regulations of the Committee on Publication Ethics. All listed authors are required to consent to be included in the author list, agree to the submission of different versions of the paper, and approve the final published version. Any changes to the listed authors, including the addition or deletion of authors, require the approval of all authors. The corresponding author should collect the consent forms from other authors for any changes in author attribution and explain the reasons for the changes in writing. This journal does not accept changes in author attribution without valid reasons. Before the official publication of the manuscript, requests for changes in author attribution that meet the requirements and are proposed by the authors may be adjusted as appropriate after mutual consultation. After the official publication of the manuscript, the publisher generally does not accept any requests for changes in any form. If it is indeed necessary, the author needs to pay the corresponding change fees, and the specific amount shall be subject to the notice from the publisher.

As the liaison between the editor and all listed authors, the corresponding author should be responsible for promptly notifying other listed authors and enabling them to participate in important decisions related to publication (such as responding to reviewers' comments, etc.).

The publisher reserves the right to require confirmation that all authors meet the criteria for being listed as authors.

5. Notice of Withdrawal of Manuscript

This journal will consider withdrawing a manuscript in the following situations:

l There is clear evidence indicating that the conclusions of the paper are unreliable, such as fabricated data or experimental errors;

l Repeatedly publishing the results of others' or one's own previously published papers without authorization and without indicating the source;

l There is plagiarism;

l Conducting research that does not conform to ethical norms.

According to the relevant requirements of the Committee on Publication Ethics regarding the withdrawal of manuscripts, this journal usually adopts the following methods of manuscript withdrawal:

(1) Withdrawal of the manuscript;

(2) Revision;

(3) Expression of concern.

All the above measures are aimed at correcting the content of the article and ensuring its authenticity, rather than being used to punish the author. To maintain the standardization of academic activities, this journal will strictly follow the publisher's guidelines for manuscript withdrawal and other acceptable academic principles when handling manuscript withdrawal matters.

It should be particularly noted that if there is no valid reason to prove that the data or conclusions of the article are invalid, and the application for manuscript withdrawal is only due to disputes over author attribution, the editorial department will not accept it.
