This article presents an example of psychotherapeutic work for depressive
client with obsessive-compulsive personality. In so doing, the author discussed
the ecological-integrative viewpoint which directed his practice in helping clients
of this type. The author explains how he integrates the theories and techniques of
psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral therapy, and humanistic psychology and focuses
on the feelings of the clients, and pays attention simultaneously to their biological,
psychological, and social factors and their interactions. The author suggests that,
in helping the clients of this type, a therapist can integrate the process of empathic
understanding and the process of constructing a solid model of conceptualization,
and have the two processes support each other. During the therapy, a practitioner also
needs to pay attention to the inner psychological ecosystem and the outer ecosystem at
the same time.
