Gestalt therapy is an existential therapy based on field theory, phenomenology and dialogue theory. The therapy reduces psychological distress by helping patients enhance their experience of selfawareness, understand and express their emotions, and promote self-support. At present, there is a large body of research evidence that Gestalt therapy is effective in treating anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorders and many other mental illnesses. At the same time, Gestalt therapy also faces some challenges in clinical application, such as high requirements for gestalt therapists and further research on the long-term effects of the therapy. However, in general, Gestalt therapy provides a new perspective and method for the treatment of mental diseases, and provides patients with a more humane and personalized treatment choice. With the deepening of research and accumulation of clinical practice, Gestalt therapy is expected to play a greater role in the field of psychotherapy in the future.
