This paper introduced an example of a university student who was suffering from depression
and frequent suicidal ideation, thus was unable to study and live normally. In this case, an application of
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the application of Crisis Intervention Theory worked well in
dealing with crisis cases. At first, the counselor stabilized client’s mood and eliminated suicidal thoughts
by providing the client full understanding and acceptance. At the same time, cognitive therapy is
utilized to help visitors change his self-cognition and boosted his confidence. Additionally, the counselor
helped the client to master how to recognize his automatic thinking process. And then the client was
able to replace automatic thoughts with more reasonable thoughts. In sum, the expected objective of
consultation, to a large extent, has been achieved. Anxiety and depression have been reduced to a certain
extent. Suicidal thoughts have been reduced. The client’s self-confidence has been improved and was
becoming optimistic for future life. Lastly, interpersonal relationships have been improved.
