“A letter from a strange woman” by the domestic famous female director Xu Jinglei directed and
participated in the leading role of a film, the film is based on the Austrian writer Stephen Zweig created in
1922 adaptation of the novel of the same name, describes a woman’s persistent and poignant life. The film
is filled with a touch of sadness. In the movie, the heroine fell in love with a romantic male reporter when
she was young. She insisted on getting pregnant and giving birth when she knew the other side did not
regard her as true love. Until her death, she told the other side her heart course in the form of a letter. The
growth process of the heroine is consistent with Jung’s “archetype” theory. This paper attempts to explore
how women complete their self-growth under the collective unconscious background of “men are inferior
to women” based on the analysis of female images in the film from the perspective of Jung’s analytical
psychology.
