The therapeutic alliance is an important relationship variable, which has been one of the most popular topics in the field of psychological counseling and psychotherapy. Theories of therapeutic alliance include triangle model theory, family therapy alliance theory, revised theory of the therapeutic alliance, and child alliance process theory. The existing measuring tools mainly involve the Penn Helping Alliance Rating Scale, Vanderbilt Therapeutic Alliance Scale, California Psychotherapy Alliance Scales, and Working Alliance Inventory. The existing scales also have some shortcomings, such as each scale measures different aspects of alliance, scales of children and adolescents are relatively less, the way to evaluate alliance is controversial, and so on. Future researches should further improve the measuring tools of therapeutic alliance, strengthen the exploration of the measuring tools in Chinese background.
