Taking the freshmen’s psychological survey data of a university in Wuhan from 2016 to
2020 as the research object, this paper discusses the change trend of Freshmen’s mental health level in
different years. Through the analysis of 23596 SCL-90 psychological census data, it is found that there
are differences between college students’ mental health level and gender, place of origin, family structure,
parents’ marital status and left behind experience. The conclusion shows that the mental health level of
college students in China is gradually improving, but the proportion of students with serious and general
mental problems is also increasing. It needs the attention and response of the whole social work, including
primary and secondary schools and colleges and universities. It is necessary to continue to strengthen the
adaptation education of freshmen and create a “five in one” mental health education model in colleges
and universities, improve the specialization and standardization of mental health education in colleges
and universities.
