Traditional sandplay therapy has some problems, such as high price, large occupied area, difficult to move, no standard and looks naive. To solve these problems, the first author (the inventor of Psy-chess) has developed a chess-playing form of psychological counseling and a tool for organizing counseling called psy-chess. Psy-chess consists of 50 pieces of chess with different patterns and a piece of white paper as the board, with pencils, erasers and other accessories. Psy-chess can be played by a single player, two-player or multi-player, employing two sets of rule. In the course of counseling, psy-chess includes five stages, which are playing stage, feeling stage, consciousness stage, transformation stage and consolidation stage. Psy-chess is mainly based on theories of sandplay therapy, analytical psychology, projective technique, systemic constellation, game theory and chess theory. As can be seen from the examples given in this paper, psy-chess is a portable and easy to analyze counseling tool suitable for psychological counselors, organization consultants and social workers.
