Person-centered therapy was used to deal with a case of seeking help
because of insomnia, anxiety and depression. The client suffered from insomnia
due to an accident at work, followed by anxiety, depression and other emotions, and
insomnia, anxiety and depression continued for nearly half a year. The counselor used
empathy, positive regard and genuineness to create an atmosphere in which client can
express freely, and establish a good counseling relationship with the client. During
the consultation, the client had a lot of awareness and insights, such as “insomnia
suddenly made me realize that I could not completely control myself ”, “as if I was not
living on my own, but playing the role of ‘me’” and “I feeling that I am both an adult
and a child”. With constant self-awareness, the client begins to listen to his inner voices
and begins to pay attention to his real needs, and insomnia, anxiety and depression are
improved.
