This study explored the application of children-centered play therapy (CCPT) in psychological intervention of children with emotional disorders. Through a counseling case of a 10-year-old boy with emotional disorder (A), this paper analyzes in detail the intervention process of CCPT, the evolution of game theme and its influence on emotional regulation, behavior improvement and social adaptation. In this case, after 13 times of children’s play therapy and 3 times of parents’ interviews, A’s emotional adjustment ability was significantly improved, aggression behavior was significantly reduced, interpersonal conflicts were significantly reduced, and she showed higher self-confidence and adaptability. The results show that CCPT can provide a safe and acceptable treatment environment for children with emotional disorders, and help them release their emotions and face internal conflicts in symbolic games, thus achieving psychological growth. Parents’ cooperation and support played an important role in the intervention process. The research results provide empirical support for the application of CCPT in children with emotional disorders, and also put forward further requirements for therapists’ professional skills and intervention strategies.
