Happiness orientations refer to an individual’s motives and goals in the pursuit of happiness, mainly including hedonic orientation (pursuit of pleasure, avoidance of pain) and eudaimonicorientation (pursuit of growth and meaning). This paper reviews the origin of the concept of happinessorientations, the development of related measurements, and analyzes and summarizes the effects ofhappiness orientations on individual well-being. Future research should further explore the cross-culturalconsistency of happiness orientation dimensions, the long-term effects of happiness orientations onindividual well-being, antecedent variables and interventions of happiness orientations.
