A detention center is a place for temporary detention of criminal suspects and defendants
who have been arrested or put under criminal detention according to law. Detainees suffer from serious
psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and compulsion. Meanwhile, fighting, suicide and
self-harm occur from time to time in detention centers, which seriously affects the physical and mental
health of detainees. It is not conducive to the smooth progress of reconnaissance, prosecution and trial,
and brings many hidden dangers to the supervision of detention centers. This paper reviews the mental
health status and service status of pretrial detainees at home and abroad, analyzes the current problems
and difficulties in developing mental health services in detention centers, and puts forward feasible
suggestions to provide reference for developing mental health services for detainees in the future.
