Longitudinal Study on Suicide Ideation of College Students in Agricultural and Forestry Universities:The Impact of Psychological Counseling on Mental Mealth
Objective: To longitudinally study the mental health changes of college students in agricultural
and forestry colleges and the influence of psychological counseling on their mental health and suicidal
ideation. Methods: Using the SCL-90 Questionnaire, a total of 63, 010 samples from 2016 to 2020 were
sampled and evaluated. Results: The mental health of college students in agricultural and forestry colleges
is generally good. The students with SCL-90 score greater than 2 accounted for 17.5% of the total. Their
scores are significantly different in gender (t=2.52, p<0.001), and there is a significant difference in
whether they have received psychological counseling (t=-7.30, p<0.001); college students in agricultural
and forestry colleges have low suicidal ideation, and students with more suicidal ideation accounted
for 0.87% of the total. Among the students with suicidal ideation, their scores are significantly different
in gender (t= 13.74, p<0.001), there is a significant difference in whether or not they have received
psychological counseling (t=-12.82, p<0.001); in 2020, when the epidemic is severe, the number of
students with psychological symptoms in all grades is on the rise, but those with suicidal thoughts
The number of students has not changed much. Conclusion: The mental health of college students in
agricultural and forestry colleges cannot be ignored, and psychological counseling can help improve the
level of mental health.
