With a long history of keeping pets, the traditional view is that pets bring unique experiences
to owners and are good for their physical and mental health. However, a growing number of studies have
found that pets may also have a negative impact on owners’ mental health, especially in the aspects of
pet problem behavior, pet separation anxiety and Pet Bereavement. In the future, more research should
be done on the theoretical integration of the relationship between owners and pets, the new human-pet
relationship, and the mechanism of pet’s effect on owner’s mental health in special period.
