Objective: the purpose of this paper is to investigate the current situation of 275 college
students’ body image, self-esteem and eating disorder, and to explore the mediating effect of body image
on eating disorder through self-esteem. Results: (1) there were significant gender differences in selfesteem
and body image. (2) There are significant grade differences in the occurrence of eating disorders
among college students. (3) There was a significant negative correlation between body image and eating
disorder; There was a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and eating disorder; There
is a significant positive correlation between body image and self-esteem. (4) Self esteem plays a partial
mediating role between body image and eating disorder.
