Rejection Sensitivity (RS) is the disposition to anxiously or angrily expect, readily perceive,
and overreact to rejection. RS, as a defensive motivation system, specifically protects individuals from the
threat of rejection, but high RS may lead to psychological dysfunction and maladjustment. The current
study introduces related theories and empirical researches of RS, and generalizes the influence factors of
the development of RS from the perspective of individuals and situations. In addition, the relationship
between RS and psychosocial adaptation is discussed. Future studies should further explore the internal
mechanism of RS in Chinese context, and conduct more intervention studies on RS.
