In this study, 184 middle-aged empty-nesters were investigated using the Self-assessment
Index(SCL-90) and the Life Satisfaction Index Scale(LSIA). The aim is to understand the current situation
of mental health and life satisfaction of middle-aged people in empty nests, and to explore the relationship
between their mental health status and life satisfaction, so as to provide a certain reference for improving
the mental health level and life satisfaction of middle-aged people in empty nests. The results showed
that:(1) There were significant differences in the level of mental health and satisfaction in the middle age
of empty nest in place of residence, marital status, length of empty nest, frequency of leisure activities,
children’s achievements and frequency of contact with children; (2) There was a significant positive
correlation between the level of mental health of middle-aged people in empty nests and life satisfaction.
