Objective: Based on dual attitude model, the study is aimed to investigate the effects of the
emotion regulation on test anxiety in medical students. Methods: 300 medical students were screened by
Test Anxiety Inventory and studied by the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for the explicit emotion
regulation. Altogether 60 students including 30 in high anxiety group and 30 in low anxiety group
were participated in the Emotion Regulation-Implicit Attitude Test (ER-IAT) to test implicit emotional
regulation. Results: (1) In explicit emotion regulation, medical students’ cognitive reappraisal and
test anxiety have significant negative correlation; expression suppression was significantly positively
related to test anxiety; (2) In implicit emotion regulation, the high anxiety group tend to have a negative
attitude towards emotional regulation and the low anxiety group tend to have a positive attitude towards
emotional regulation. Conclusion: Both the explicit and implicit attitudes of emotional regulation have an
effect on the test anxiety in medical students.
