Objective: To understand the comparative study of the current situation of learning motivation,
empathy and altruistic behavior between medical college undergraduates and undergraduates
from comprehensive universities in the context of sudden disasters and major events. Methods: A
random sampling method was used to select 107 medical undergraduates and undergraduates from a
comprehensive university from a medical college and a comprehensive university as subjects to conduct
a questionnaire survey. Results: (1) There was a significant difference in the learning motivation scores
of medical students and non-medical undergraduates (p<0.05); (2) There was no significant difference in
learning interest and learning goals (p<0.05); (3) The empathy ability of medical students is significantly
higher than that of non-medical undergraduates; there is no significant difference between medical
students and non-medical undergraduates in altruistic behavior and self-evaluation (p<0.05). Conclusion:
In the context of sudden disasters and major events, the learning motivation of medical students is
significantly stimulated, which provides a basis for cultivating all-round medical talents with empathy
ability.
