This study explored the relationship between ethnic stereotype and self-identity in Mongolian
and Han university freshmen, and conducted a questionnaire survey among 2504 freshmen. The results
showed that: 1) The formation of identity of Freshmen in Mongolian and Han universities is delayed
state, diffusion state, early closed state and acquired state. 2)The average scores of all ethnic stereotypes in
Mongolian and Han university freshmen are higher than those in the median level. 3)The self-identity of
Mongolian freshmen is significantly higher than that of Han nationality freshmen. There are significant
differences in self-identity and national stereotype between Mongolian and Han freshmen from different
sources. 4)There are different correlations between Mongolian and Han nationality freshmen in different
states of self-identity and national stereotypes.
