In order to understand the mental health status of male young soldier of a certain army in the frontier,
the study adopted a cluster sampling method and applied the symptom self-rating scale (SCL-90) to survey
680 young male soldiers in a certain army in the border area. Comparing the SCL-90 norm, the results show
that: 6.18% of young soldiers have different psychological problems; except for the somatization factor and the
military norm, other factors are lower than the military norm (p<0.01); The scores of the SCL-90 factors of young
male soldiers are lower than the gender norm, service category norm and personnel category norm of SCL-90
in 2016 (p<0.01). This result indicates the mental health of young male soldiers in the border areas is good, but
mental health education is still needed to pay attention to their physical and mental health.
