This study aimed to examine the relationship between family rearing
style, social anxiety and shame among undergraduate students, and explore the
mediating role of shame. 296 college students completed the simple parenting style
scale(s-EMBU-C), Interaction Anxiousness Scale (IAS) and Experience of Shame
Scale(ESS). The results are as follows: (1) father’s emotional warmth negatively predict
shame. (2) Father’s emotional warmth negatively predict social anxiety, and mother’s
overprotection positively predicts social anxiety. (3) Shame positively predict social
anxiety. (4) Shame is a complete mediator in the effect of father’s emotional warmth on
social anxiety
