Three paradigms on studying emotion intelligence have being explored: mixed model, ability model and process model. The process model of emotion intelligence suggests that emotion intelligence is based on the four emotional information processes: simplified or complicated processing, automatic or controlled processes, externally-focused or internally-focused processing, and positive or negative processing. The four emotional information processes underpin individual differences in emotion intelligence in humans. The 4R process model of emotion intelligence, which concluded emotion refinement, emotion reactivity, emotion representation, emotion regulation, is presented in order to define and enhance the emotion intelligence in humans based on its psychological mechanisms, nervous mechanisms, and individual differences.
