Even-Zohar, the pioneer of Polysystem theory, has analyzed a series of relations between literature and languages and and moves towards a more complex analysis of socio-cultural systems. In this theory, Evan-Zohar points out that translated literature plays different roles in different historical periods. The famous British nineteenth-century critical realist novel Vanity Fair is Thackeray's work of fame, and since the publication of its first Chinese translated version by Yang Bi in 1957, a number of translators have enthusiastically devoted themselves to it, and there have been quite a number of editions up to the present time, and among them, Rong Rude's version has been widely acclaimed after being published after a lapse of forty years. This paper attempts to compare these two translations under the guidance of the Polysystem Theory, to analyze and explore the different translation strategies adopted by the two translated versions in different times and socio-cultural contexts, as well as the reasons behind the differences.
