Yu Hua is one of the representatives of Chinese Avant-garde Novel. two volumes of his novel Brothers were published by Shanghai Literature and art press in 2005 and 2006 respectively and has aroused great repercussions among ordinary readers and literary circles in China. The English version of Brothers, later published in America by Random House at the beginning of 2009, has caused quite a stir in the English-speaking world. In just a few months, there have been more than 20 book reviews, including magazine editors, writers, translators, critics and sociologists, which shows the wide range of attention. This article mainly discusses the translation problems of the black humor in brothers from the aspects of character image, scene description and narrative language. It is believed that the translator can reproduce the narrative effect of black humor in the original text better and make the narrative style of the story better reappeared and conveyed.
