Based on the Multimodal Metaphor Theory, the research which focuses on the US-China trade war news cartoons from American mainstream media shows that firstly, verbo-pictorial metaphor is the most frequently used one; secondly, each modality of a cartoon is integrated into a complete one, collectively contributing to the construction of the metaphorical meaning; thirdly, the attitudes of American mainstream media towards the trade war is negative; fourthly, in terms of ideology, the stereotypical bias of America media towards China is also reflected in the cartoons.
