Study on the Construction of the Image of Chinese Peacekeeping Forces and its External Publicity Strategies-a Case Study on the Peacekeeping Reports of the English Version of Chinese Military Website
Abstract: This paper studies the peacekeeping news in Features,a column of the English version of Chinese Military website by using the methods of content analysis in communication, discourse analysis based on corpus and evaluation theory in functional linguistics. It aims to explore the construction of the image of Chinese peacekeeping forces and its historical change. The study shows those peacekeeping news build the Chinese military personnel in the image of being dedicated, professional, proficient and friendly, which adopts diversified information sources, more military personnel’s perspectives, highlight appreciation appraisal, and make more use of the reporter's voice. Based on the research, the article also provides suggestions on the external publicity strategy of Chinese servicemen.
