A Comparative Study of Original English Textbook and Local English Textbook for Junior Middle School Students —Taking Oxford Yilin and Cambridge EIM as Example
In the process of English learning, the quality of textbooks will directly
affect teachers’ teaching quality and students’ learning efficiency. Therefore, through
the comparative analysis of different versions of textbooks, teachers can have a better
understanding of textbooks. In China, the comparative analysis of local textbooks
has been sufficient, but the comparative analysis of local textbooks and the original
textbooks is not sufficient. The comparison between local textbooks and original
textbooks can make up for the shortcomings in the field of comparative analysis of
textbooks, which is of great significance for teachers to deeply understand textbooks,
constantly innovate and change teaching design and ideas.
This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between the native Oxford
Textbook and the original Cambridge textbook in three aspects: design concept,
structure arrangement and topic selection. The two versions have their own
characteristics in adapting to students’ level, meeting students’ needs and providingreal context. This suggests that teachers should rely on the local teaching materials,
take the original teaching materials as the materials, focus on meeting the needs of
students, and design teaching activities from a new perspective in the real context
