The author explores ways to enhance the quality and effectiveness of ideological and political education through psychological counseling strategies. It starts by analyzing students’ psychological needs, highlighting their close link with ideological and political education, and noting the issue of disconnection between educational practice and these needs. The integration of psychological counseling strategies, including communication and conflict resolution skills, positive regard and emotional support, and methods for promoting self-awareness and personal growth, is then examined. Finally, practical approaches to improving educational quality and effectiveness are proposed, such as enhancing educators’ psychological counseling abilities, enriching educational content and teaching methods, and creating a conducive educational environment. Using these strategies can boost the appeal and effectiveness of ideological and political education, meet students’ psychological development needs, and promote their overall growth.
