This paper discusses the current development status of rock climbing in Chinese universities and its value in enhancing students’ comprehensive qualities. It comprehensively analyzes the current situation of curriculum design, teaching resources, student participation, and competitive levels using various research methods. The study found that although rock climbing has been promoted in universities, it still faces issues such as monotonous curriculum content, inadequate facilities, and a lack of strong teaching staff. Additionally, students have limited awareness of rock climbing, low participation rates, and their competitive levels need improvement. However, rock climbing has a positive impact on students’ physical and mental health, communication skills, spiritual well-being, and self-realization. Therefore, this paper proposes countermeasures such as strengthening teaching resources, expanding curriculum promotion, improving competitive selection and training mechanisms, and enhancing safety management. These aim to promote the healthy development of rock climbing in universities. Implementing these measures will effectively enhance its educational value, meet student needs, and facilitate the popularization and improvement of rock climbing in universities.
