Promoting Learning Through Competition: Practical Paths to Enhance Cultural Confidence Among College Students —Taking the “Telling China’s Stories in Foreign Languages” Short Video Contest as an Example
In the new era, it is a crucial objective of English education to cultivate college students’ ability to tell China’s stories well in English and enhance their cultural confidence. While there are ample theoretical and empirical studies on enhancing cultural confidence through classroom teaching, research on extracurricular practical approaches remains limited. Taking the “Higher Education Press” Cup “Telling China’s Stories Well in Foreign Languages” Short Video Production Contest as an example, this paper, guided by objectives and supported by case studies of topic selection and text writing, explores the feasibility of promoting learning through competition from three aspects: the exploration of ideological and political elements before the activity, guidance during the activity, and feedback after the activity. It designs an effective practical path that embodies the educational value of “integrating knowledge and practice seamlessly”, aiming to enable students to acquire language learning skills, enhance their comprehensive abilities, and achieve the educational effect of integrating ideological and political education into courses through practice.
