The digital transformation of higher education is an important issue that needs attention in the current era, and teachers’ digital teaching ability is the core content and prerequisite for the digital transformation of higher education. Through comparison, the connotation of digital teaching ability is proposed. The value of teachers’ digital teaching ability in the era is that it leads the direction of educational reform and promotes the high-quality development of higher education from a macro perspective; it meets the needs of personalized education and promotes educational equity; from a micro perspective, it accelerates the digitalization process of university courses and enriches teaching resources; it improves teachers’ and students’ digital application and governance capabilities; it promotes teachers’ professional growth and the construction of learning organizations. In the process of digital teaching ability practice, there are still many difficulties such as the imbalance of digital teaching resources supply in universities, the imperfection of digital teaching guarantee mechanism, the lack of systematic digital teaching training courses, and the slow updating of digital teaching concepts among university teachers.
