In the undergraduate training stage of higher education, professional introduction courses often face many problems such as dense new knowledge points, high initial learning difficulty, and low classroom teaching efficiency during the teaching process. Guangdong University of Petroleum and Chemical Technology is vigorously promoting the goal oriented teaching model, which is student-centered and problem-centered. By summarizing five types of problems, analyzing the key and difficult points of the course, sorting out the knowledge structure, and reconstructing the course content, it can effectively improve classroom teaching efficiency. Taking the course “Introduction to Petroleum Engineering” as an example, this paper discusses the reform process and practical effects of the goal oriented teaching model in the professional introduction course, which can provide a certain reference for the teaching of science and engineering professional introduction courses.
