Due to diverse factors, the students majoring in science and engineering in common colleges usually tend to have weak study motivation for College English, which may be both intensified by online teaching practice over the two-year COVID-19 pandemic and reflected in current teaching and learning. The cultivation of healthy study motivation guarantees the accomplishment of College English learning tasks. In order to enhance students’ learning initiative or study motivation, it’s worth adopting the following methods in daily teaching practice: exposing the charm of English, integrating the knowledge of humanities into English teaching and utilizing psychological elements of appreciation and expectation.
