Language is an integral part of culture. Language and culture cannot be separated. The cultural content contained in English textbooks can promote students’ intercultural communication awareness and intercultural communication ability. This study adopts the method of text analysis and makes a statistical analysis on cultural content of PEP’s and YLP’s seventh grade English textbooks according to Risager’s cultural classification. The findings can be concluded as follows: these two versions of English textbooks prefer to choose materials that students are familiar with and materials that match students’ cognitive level; however, the most characters of texts in YLP are non-students. The cultural contents of the two versions of the seventh grade English textbooks are also different in the situation of interaction and subjectivity.
