“Production Oriented Approach” (hereinafter referred to as POA) is a foreign language teaching
theory with Chinese characteristics created by the teaching and research team led by Professor Wen
Qiufang of China foreign language and education research center of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Based on POA, this teaching practice tries to integrate and explore the feasibility and effectiveness of
ideological and political teaching in College English which is a compulsory course for undergraduates.
The close relationship between language and culture is the key for ideological and political elements. With
the specific process of “motivating, enabling and assessing”, College English implements the educational concept of cultivating morality and people to cultivate students’ language application ability, enhance students’ cross-cultural communication awareness, autonomous learning ability and critical thinking. In addition, students’ values and international vision should be established so that they are able to spread Chinese culture. This paper aims to effectively integrate POA with the ideological and political teaching of College English under the background of “curriculum ideological and political education” so as to improve students’ language output ability.
