With the outbreak of COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020, online teaching in middle schools
has revealed defects such as inadequate atdiscipline, reduced participation and failure to meet the
implementation of practical teaching courses, thus reducing the quality of teaching. The significance
of online teaching under the guidance of embodied cognition theory lies in that, on the one hand, it
can improve students’ consciousness in class, actively participate in class, meet the demand of handson
operation of practical courses, and thus improve the teaching quality. On the other hand, the form of
online teaching is more in line with the thinking development stage of middle school students, which can
stimulate students’ interest in learning and enrich their emotional experience. At the same time, virtual
reality technology supported by 5G can partially realize online teaching under the guidance of embodied
cognition theory, and put forward future prospects for the real realization of immersive online teaching.
