With the proposal of teacher accreditation, national criteria of teaching quality for BA programs
in English as well as the New liberal art, the cultivation and professional development of English teachers
enjoy enormous importance among the implementation of the above-mentioned educational reform and
development. Based the theoretical and practical studies on English teachers’ professional development,
he present paper aims to analyze the current challenges faced with the English teachers in universities and
proposes some effective suggestions on facilitating English teachers’ professional development, which will
in turn improve the quality of English talents’ cultivation.
