Variation Translation in International Publicity on China’s Efforts against Covid-19: Cultural Communication and National Image—A Case Study of Online Themed Exhibition on the Fight Against Covid-19 of Hubei Province
Wuhan City, the capital of Hubei Province, is the main battleἀeld in the national fight against Covid-19, and the Themed Exhibition on the Fight Against Covid-19 demonstrates China’s proactive role in that fight. The preface in the exhibition hall is distinctively featured with the frequent use of culture-loaded words, rhetorical methods and number abbreviations. Publicity translation is an access for the foreign visitors to the overall picture of China’s experiences and also to the globally positive and responsible role. Therefore, in order to achieve the expected international publicity impact, it is suggested that “cross-language”, “cross-culture” and “national image” need to be taken into consideration by means of “variation” based on an accurate understanding of the source text.
