The Japanese Translation Strategies of Metaphors in Political Texts from the Perspective of Political Equivalence—Take the 20th CPC National Congress Report as an Example
This paper, by taking the 20th CPC National Congress report as the main research object, adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to classify and study the conceptual metaphors in the text under the theoretical frameworks of political equivalence and conceptual metaphor. From a perspective of the working mechanism of conceptual metaphors, the paper analyzes and summarizes the translation strategies used in the Japanese version and the factors influencing the choice of translation strategies. The study shows that four translation strategies have been used, i.e., retaining metaphor for direct translation, retaining metaphor for explicit translation, discarding metaphor, and switching metaphor. Besides, the translation strategies are largely affected for linguistic and cultural reasons.
