In the light of critical discourse analysis (CDA), this study, based on the related reports on postpandemic economy of Wuhan by 19 international mainstream English-language newspapers, aims to explore how foreign media describe, present and evaluate post-pandemic economy of Wuhan from three levels: linguistic practice, discursive practice and social practice. The study also uncovers the ideology behind the construction of the images. Meanwhile, the study identifies the concerns and misunderstandings of the international community about Wuhan’s economy as well as the problems in the construction of the discourse. Strategies are also available for Wuhan’s foreign publicity and as insights and reference for the construction of China’s national image or city image.
