Vocabulary with Chinese characteristics is the linguistic manifestation of Chinese politics, economy and culture. The research on English translation of vocabulary with Chinese characteristics is of great significance for telling Chinese stories and introducing Chinese concepts of development to the outside world. China has eradicated poverty in rural areas and heralded a new era in the fight against poverty for the mankind. Based on the translation practice, we analyze four types of vocabularies with Chinese characteristics from the perspective of translating Chinese experience in poverty alleviation, including numerical abbreviations, parallel-structured phrases, metaphorical expressions and category words. Translation methods such as conversion, literal translation, amplification, paraphrase, and emission are employed to tackle the problems encountered in translation process. This paper is purposed to provide reference for the translation practice of vocabulary with Chinese characteristics in the future.
