Public physical education courses are an important component of the university curriculum system and a significant tool and carrier for helping students establish socialist core values. This study, taking Sichuan Agricultural University as a case, employs the methods of literature review, questionnaire survey, and mathematical statistics. Through actual investigation and analysis, it reveals potential issues. The survey found that the current construction faces problems such as students’ lack of learning awareness, poor educational effects of the courses, insufficient exploration of ideological and political content, and the need for improvement in assessment content. In response to these issues, optimization paths are proposed, including deepening students’ understanding and cognition of the ideological and political aspects in public physical education courses and optimizing the teaching evaluation system for the ideological and political aspects of these courses. The aim is to enhance the educational effect of ideological and political education in public physical education courses and effectively optimize the construction and development of these courses.
