As a place where Buddhism took off from regional religion to world
religion, Gandhara region absorbed and integrated Persian, Indian and other
civilizations on the basis of Greco-Roman civilization, and creatively gave
birth to Gandhara art. Admittedly, the birth of Gandhara art is inseparable
from the particularity of Gandhara region, but its development is closely based
on Buddhism, while Buddhism can be widely disseminated with the help
of Gandhara art. This paper combs the origin and artistic characteristics of
Gandhara art, analyzes and explores the artistic elements of Gandhara in the
murals of Gaochang Uighur period in Bezikrik Grottoes, and focuses on the
image of Buddha in the variation of Buddhist sutras.
