This paper discusses the influence of Confucianism's concept of ‘human being’ on German society and culture. Confucianism originated in the Spring and Autumn Period and has developed into the main body of Chinese traditional culture. Its concept of ‘human being’ encompasses such ideas as inner moral cultivation, social responsibility and harmonious interpersonal relationships. Confucianism has had a profound influence on Germany in many aspects such as religion, educational outlook, philosophical thinking and values. Through the translation of Confucian classics, Wei Lixian has promoted the exchange of philosophical thoughts between China and Germany.
