This study analyzes some of Chinese and Japanese mystery novels, compares the specific images of Chinese and Japanese fox demons, and explores the differences between the fox demon images in the story structure and cultural symbols of the two countries. In the process of evolution from early demonism to human nature, the Chinese fox demon gradually has rich social attributes, and its image has become more and more complex, showing richer human characteristics. In Japanese mystery novels, although fox demons also interact with humans, they pay more attention to describing their witchcraft, deception and mystery, and retain more of their own natural and mysterious power characteristics, and their images are relatively fixed, which is often closely related to traditional Japan Inari beliefs and nature worship. Moreover, the appearance of the fox demon image in Japanese literature is also influenced by Chinese literature, so we can see many similarities of the Chinese fox demon image in the fox demon image in Japan. An in-depth analysis of the image of the fox demon in Chinese and Japanese literature will not only help to understand the commonalities between the two kinds of literature, but also allow us to explore how the two kinds of literature have formed their own uniqueness in the process of development.
