“Greek Mythology” is an elective general education course at Xianda College of Economics and Humanities, Shanghai International Studies University. In the context of “New Liberal Arts” development, the course follows the school’s philosophy of “cross-disciplinary, international, and application-oriented” education. It establishes “three-dimensional and four-stage” course objectives with a corresponding evaluation system. Based on the interdisciplinary nature of Greek mythology, the course content integrates multiple perspectives to enhance students’ understanding of Chinese mythology and society, fostering shared values. An integrated teaching approach, combining online and offline classes, along with group discussions, presentations, performances, and WeChat posts, boosts student engagement and fosters inquiry-based learning. This problem-oriented strategy offers valuable insights for the reform of application-oriented undergraduate general education courses.
