On June 14, 2008, the traditional craftsmanship of Yi silver jewelry was approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage. The silver jewelry of Waqu, which is quite famous in the Yi ethnic area of Liangshan, is a representative of local practice that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design, which has strong local characteristics. This paper conducts field research and analysis on the origin, current situation, and difficulties of Waqu silver jewelry. From the perspective of inheriting national culture, the current development of Waqu silver jewelry is that the personalized development of handicrafts cannot be industrialized on a large scale. Blind industrialization will not only fail in the market, but also shake the root of traditional national culture. Therefore, we should have a cautious attitude towards the industrial transformation of national culture.
