Kunqu is not only treasure of traditional Chinese culture, but also world intangible cultural heritage. Kunqu Romeo and Juliet is among the representatives of cultural heritage, innovation and development in the new era. With the method of social semiotics of translation, this paper classifies the culture-loaded words and analyzes their translation in Kunqu Romeo and Juliet from three aspects: referential meaning, intralingual meaning and pragmatic meaning. What’s more, the paper analyzes the characteristics of Kunqu translation, and summarizes common methods and contributing factors of Kunqu translation, providing advice for its future development to promote further spread of traditional Chinese culture.
