• Abstract: 与其追求现代化，不如直接追求终极价值。因为现代化不仅含义不清，还会随着时间的推移而不断变化，并且它不属于目的价值，所以把它作为目的直接追求，就会带来一些不可避免的弊端。相反，直接追求终极价值就不会这样。可以得到确证的终极价值是人的全面自由发展，它可以根据人的需求分解为康健、富裕、和谐、自由这四大指标。于是，一个社会只要能够不断地提高人们的康寿度、富裕度、和谐度和自由度，就是在不断地推进人的全面自由发展即社会的不断进步。
• It is better to directly pursue the ultimate value than to pursuemodernization. Because modernization not only has unclear meanings, butalso constantly changes over time, and it does not belong to the purpose value.So pursuing it as a purpose will bring some inevitable disadvantages. On thecontrary, directly pursuing the ultimate value will not be like this. The ultimatevalue that can be confirmed is the comprehensive and free development ofhuman beings. It can be decomposed into four major indicators according topeople’s needs: health, affluence, harmony, and freedom. Therefore, a society cancontinuously improve people’s health, affluence, harmony, and freedom, whichis constantly promoting the comprehensive and free development of humanbeings, that is, the continuous progress of society.
